Soapbox, Speeds & Summerleaze: Team Firebrand at the Bideford Soapbox Derby

This past weekend, we swapped brewing for racing and took on the Bideford Soapbox Derby - what a ride it was.

Our race car? Handmade, barely tested, and built more for vibes than velocity. But it held together and Joe was brave enough to launch it down the hill with Ben on full-time pit crew duties.

The weather might’ve been a bit grey, but the crowd brought the energy. There were crashes, cheers, near misses and plenty of laughs all in support of the brilliant North Devon Hospice.

Massive shoutout to The Outside Inn for keeping the Firebrand beer flowing and the tunes going strong all day. Top work from Alan and the crew for running a cracking bar and bringing the vibes, rain or shine.

We ended up 17th out of over 30 teams, which feels like a win for a first-time build. And hey - the car didn’t fall apart, so we’re counting that as a success.

Thanks to everyone who came out, cheered us on, grabbed a pint, or helped make the day what it was. We had a blast and we’re already thinking about how to go faster next year.
