Slow-mo near buoys
Drops the game to 2× speed within 80m of each buoy so you have time to steer.
Pick your crew
Choose 6 of 9. Tap a picked rower again to make them Stroke. Their technique sets the rhythm and counts double.
How to cox (read me!)
- You steer. Each tap of Port or Stbd moves the rudder one notch (8 each side). Hold to keep moving it. The rudder stays where you leave it. Tap the rudder gauge to centre it.
- Round each buoy yourself. On the starboard-turning course, keep every buoy on your right. On the port-turning course, keep it on your left. If you pass the wrong side of a buoy you're disqualified.
- Rate (strokes per minute) gives you speed but costs stamina. About 32–34 can be held for 2km; 38+ will empty the tank.
- Push 10! gives ten big strokes: about 6% faster, but three times as tiring.
- The corner trade-off: the faster you're going, the wider you turn. Too much rudder at speed makes the boat skid and scrub off speed. Hold Check (hold water) to slow down. While checking, full rudder pivots the gig much tighter.
- Water rights: inside the 30m zone around a buoy, the inside boat has water. If you steer in from the outside and clash oars, you get a 5s penalty. Touching the buoy also costs 5s.
- Sitting right behind a boat puts you in its wash, which slows you. Move out to pass. The wind helps on some legs and hurts on others.
